PIANIST, PIANO EDUCATOR, MUSIC SCHOOL DIRECTOR

Shannon Keeler

I have been playing piano for as long as I can remember, and I have been teaching piano for over 30 years. I started out playing as a small child by watching my grandmother, climbing up on the bench with her and attempting to pick out the boogie-woogie basslines she loved to play.

Fast forward past an undergraduate degree in classical piano performance, a master’s degree in piano pedagogy, years of studying jazz independently, and many, many private and group lessons taught in the music school I founded in the Pacific Northwest, to today. My experience teaching piano to preschoolers through adults, beginners through advanced, individually and in groups, have given me a very wide understanding of the “piano learning process.” And my experience playing both classical and jazz piano have given me a treasure trove of knowledge to share.

It has been quite a journey! And through it all, I have been repeatedly impressed by the power of piano playing.

I’d like to share my highlights and my insights with you. Because, in the words of in the words of the great Louis Armstrong, “What we play, is life.”
